Pinnacle Partnership Breaks Ground on Courtyard by Marriott, Advancing Spartanburg’s West Side Entertainment Hub

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Pinnacle Partnership has broken ground on a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel near Westgate Mall, the latest step in the Spartanburg-based developer’s push to turn the city’s west side into a regional entertainment and travel destination.

The five-story, 126-room hotel will rise on Pinnacle’s growing hospitality campus along the Westgate corridor, joining the company’s 1881 Event Hall and Heirloom restaurant, both already operating on the same site. The Regal Cinemas Spartan 16 sits nearby, giving the area an existing base of dining and entertainment traffic that Pinnacle is looking to build on.

Company officials said the project responds to sustained demand for hotel rooms in Spartanburg, driven by corporate travel tied to the region’s manufacturing base, university-related visitors, and weekend event traffic drawn to the west side’s expanding entertainment offerings. Construction is expected to take approximately 12 months once work is fully underway, putting a potential opening in the second quarter of 2027.

The hotel is only one piece of a larger master plan Pinnacle has outlined for the Westgate area, which includes additional entertainment venues, food and beverage concepts, retail space, multifamily residential units, and other mixed-use components. The company has not released a full timeline or investment figure for the broader vision, but the Courtyard groundbreaking signals the plan has moved from concept to active construction.

For brokers, developers and investors tracking the Upstate’s hospitality sector, the project adds to a wave of hotel activity in Spartanburg County this year, as owners bet on continued industrial and corporate expansion in the market to sustain room demand. A west-side district anchored by hospitality, dining and residential uses would also create new leasing and investment opportunities for retail and multifamily developers eyeing infill sites near an established traffic generator.

Pinnacle Partnership has not disclosed the total construction cost of the hotel. Additional phases of the Westgate entertainment district are expected to be announced as the company finalizes financing and site plans for the remaining parcels.
