Prisma Health Breaks Ground on $180M Fountain Inn Medical Park in Southern Greenville County

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Prisma Health broke ground June 30 on a $180 million medical park in Fountain Inn, adding a 50-acre health care campus to one of the fastest-growing corridors in southern Greenville County and signaling continued demand for large-scale commercial development along the Interstate 385/McCarter Road corridor.

A Growth Corridor Gets a New Anchor

The Fountain Inn Medical Park will sit near the interchange serving Fountain Inn and Simpsonville, an area Prisma Health and state officials describe as among the fastest-growing in South Carolina. The project centers on a four-story, 130,000-square-foot medical office building with more than 200 exam rooms, according to a report by SC Biz News. A 27,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center — featuring four operating rooms focused on orthopedic procedures and four additional suites for gastrointestinal and endoscopic care — is also under construction.

“Today represents far more than the start of construction — it represents our continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality, compassionate care across South Carolina,” Prisma Health President and CEO Mark O’Halla said, according to SC Biz News. “As our state continues to grow at a remarkable pace, we are focused on ensuring we have the healthcare services that support our communities.”

Design and Construction Team

The project’s development team reflects the scale of the investment: McMillan Pazdan Smith designed the facility, JLL is managing the project, Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor, Thomas & Hutton is handling civil engineering, and Smith Seckman Reed is overseeing mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, per SC Biz News. Anchor Planning is managing equipment planning for the complex, which is expected to see its first patients in December 2027.

More Than a Dozen New and Expanded Specialties

The medical park will house more than a dozen specialties under one roof, including advanced cancer treatment, cardiology-vascular care, radiation and medical oncology, neurology, ear-nose-and-throat care, urology and colorectal care, SC Biz News reported. Existing specialty practices will relocate from Prisma Health’s nearby Hillcrest Hospital campus in Simpsonville, freeing that facility to expand primary care services.

Justin Benfield, CEO of Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital and Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital, said the project reflects a broader strategy. “Our goal is to create a seamless experience across the continuum of care, ensuring patients can easily access high-quality services when and where they need them most,” Benfield said, according to SC Biz News.

Local Officials Welcome the Investment

Fountain Inn Mayor G.P. McLeer and state Rep. Mark Willis, who represents S.C. House District 16, both attended the groundbreaking ceremony. “This exciting project will bring much needed access to health care services for our community and the surrounding area,” McLeer said, per SC Biz News. Willis called the project “another example of Prisma’s commitment to providing exceptional and more convenient care in our growing Upstate community.”

Recruitment for physicians and other health care staff at the new campus is already underway, Prisma Health said.
