WESTMINSTER, S.C. — Mosdorfer LLC, an Austrian manufacturer of high-voltage transmission line equipment, has selected a site in Westminster for its first operation in the United States, a $44.55 million investment that will bring 107 jobs and a new industrial tenant to Oconee County’s business park inventory.
Company Picks 444 Oconee Business Parkway
Mosdorfer’s new facility will be located at 444 Oconee Business Parkway, according to a South Carolina Governor’s Office news release. The site will handle machining, steel fabrication, assembly and testing for high-voltage transmission line hardware and accessories — components used to improve the safety and reliability of electricity transmission systems. Operations are expected to come online by the third quarter of 2027, and the facility will also serve as the company’s North American production and operational hub, supporting long-term growth in the U.S. market.
“It has been an incredible journey over the past year,” said Erich Kaltmann, Mosdorfer’s Energy Systems Managing Director, in the governor’s office release. “During our site selection process, we evaluated numerous locations across several U.S. states, visited many communities and carefully assessed a wide range of opportunities. From the very beginning, we felt welcomed and supported in Oconee County.”
A 300-Year-Old Company’s First American Foothold
Mosdorfer is headquartered in Weiz, Austria, where the company was founded more than 300 years ago, in 1712. It began designing and manufacturing hardware for high-voltage transmission lines in 1949 and today operates production facilities in Europe, India and Thailand that employ more than 1,100 people, according to the release. The company operates as the competence center for the energy systems business unit within the Knill Energy Group.
“This new factory in Oconee marks another major milestone in our long history,” Kaltmann said. “As a company that thinks in generations, we are making a long-term commitment to this community and have come here to stay.”
Local and State Leaders Cheer the Deal
South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits tied to the project, the release said. Gov. Henry McMaster credited the state’s workforce for the win. “South Carolina’s skilled workforce and business-friendly environment continue driving economic success across the state,” McMaster said in the release.
Oconee Economic Alliance President and CEO Jamie Gilbert said the recruitment had been a top priority for the county. “Mosdorfer aligns well with the county’s economic development goal of attracting high quality, stable manufacturers that complement our workforce strengths and have a growing and reliable customer base,” Gilbert said in the release.
State Senate President Thomas C. Alexander added that the decision reflects Oconee’s appeal to global manufacturers. “Oconee’s pro-business climate, skilled workforce and exceptional quality of life make it an outstanding place to do business, live and raise a family,” Alexander said.
